Frets on Fire on Mac: Legacy Status and What to Use Instead

There is a real Mac build of vanilla Frets on Fire — FretsOnFire-1.3.110-macosx.zip on SourceForge — but it is a legacy 32-bit build. It will not run on modern macOS, and it will not run on Apple Silicon Macs, because Apple removed 32-bit application support. Treat it as a historical file for old Intel Macs, not as a current Mac download.

What Mac players should do instead

  • On an old Intel Mac running an old macOS version, the legacy ZIP may still run; keep expectations low and back up your songs first.
  • On any modern Mac, use Clone Hero or YARG, both of which ship current macOS builds.
  • Do not buy a “Mac version” of Frets on Fire from a third-party site — there is no modern official Mac build to sell.
