No, vanilla Frets on Fire will not run on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3 and later), and it will not run on any modern macOS version. The only Mac build, FretsOnFire-1.3.110-macosx.zip, is a legacy 32-bit build, and Apple removed 32-bit application support from macOS. Rosetta 2 translates 64-bit Intel apps, not 32-bit ones.
What Mac players should use
- Clone Hero — current macOS builds, keyboard and guitar controllers, huge custom-song library.
- YARG — current macOS builds via its launcher, with guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals.
- An old Intel Mac on an old macOS version can still run the legacy ZIP; see the Mac legacy guide.
Be suspicious of any site selling or “fixing” a modern Mac version of Frets on Fire. There is no modern official Mac build, and this site does not offer one.
