Windows 10 is the friendliest modern system for vanilla Frets on Fire: it is close enough to the game’s era that most installs work first time, and far enough along that drivers are still available. Use the portable ZIP unless you specifically want Start menu shortcuts.
Install steps
- Download FretsOnFire-1.3.110-win32.zip from SourceForge, or the installer if you prefer a wizard.
- Extract to
C:\Games\FretsOnFire\and runFretsOnFire.exe. - If it crashes, set Windows 7 compatibility mode and run as administrator, then update your GPU driver from the GPU maker’s site.
Common Windows 10 problems

Once the game runs, add songs with the custom songs guide and check calibration and A/V delay before judging your timing.
