FoFiX’s latest stable release is 3.123, released on 2021-12-16. That is the version to install if you want FoFiX today. It is not a 2026 release, and this site does not pretend otherwise — FoFiX, like vanilla Frets on Fire, is a legacy project with a long gap since its last stable release.
What 3.123 gives you
- The full FoFiX feature set: themes, four-player local play, bass and drum tracks, vocals, and killswitch/pitchbend.
- Compatibility with the Frets on Fire song format (
song.ini,notes.mid,guitar.ogg), so your existing songs carry over. - A game that still runs on Windows with far less compatibility work than vanilla 1.3.110.
What about FoFiX 4.0?
FoFiX 4.0 has been in development for years, with planned online multiplayer and video-background support, and a Python 3 migration that was still incomplete in the project’s 2022 quarterly report. It has not replaced 3.123 as the stable release. Do not download a “FoFiX 4.0” build from a third-party site claiming it is stable — get FoFiX from the FoFiX repository and check which branch a build actually comes from.
